Based from our UK HQ in Alton, Hampshire, we manufacture tens of thousands of motors annually with over 50% being exported to EMEA, APAC & the Americas
Originally founded in 1963 as Printed Motors Limited, we are the original European manufacturer of printed armature pancake servo motors
PMI Motion Technologies Inc., a US manufacturing arm, was established in the same decade. PMI later became part of Kollmorgen brand offering similar motors to the North American market. Kollmorgen latterly closed operations in the US and now refers sales and support to PMW Dynamics in the UK
Our product range and design expertise covers a broad portfolio of both brushed and brushless technology. In 2022, rebranding to PMW Dynamics was introduced to reflect capabilities beyond printed armature technology

We care about our planet and the impact of our precious resources. Staggeringly it's claimed that over 40% of all electric power generated is used to drive an electric motor!!
But, in reality, electric motors are everywhere and they touch every aspect of our lives. Get out of bed to a warm central heated house - pump motor. Make your favourite smoothie for breakfast - blender motor. Jump in your car to drive to the station - adjust your chair position, wing mirrors - more motors. Hop on the train - propulsion motors. Pass through the ticket barriers - gate motors ... and on and on and you haven't even reached your office yet!!
At PMW Dynamics we not only strive to run our business with a minimal environmental foot print but we also design our motors to be as energy efficient as possible
So, for example, we have a solar farm on the roof of our factory meaning on bright sunny days we generate all our own electricity and actually contribute the excess back into the national grid
Additional, as another example, we are working hard to eliminate all plastics from our packaging
Why Bespoke Motor Design?
Why would you choose to develop a bespoke motor for your application?
In honesty, you probably wouldn't if you can find the right motor from a catalogue. However, often you can't. These are some of reason why a bespoke motor is right for your application
- A catalogue motor is a generic "one-size-suits-all" which often compromises at least one critical performance characteristic for your application?
- Maybe your application calls for a specific motor form factor - length, diameter, volume, mass etc.?
- You might need a specific interface to the load? A custom output shaft or flange?
- Perhaps you need to design to a specific operating parameter like voltage or current availability?
- Maybe motor performance needs to be optimised for a specific application load-point?
- Or your applications needs a design for a particular environment like space, vacuum, wash-down, hygienic, subsea, harsh etc.?

Chris has worked within the automation industry since 1989, starting as product manager for Harmonic Drives selling zero backlash geared solutions. Chris moved to Infranor a few years later selling DC brushed and brushless motors, and then to Baldor heading up the business development of new servo and motion controls business. Chris also worked for Bergher Lahr and Lenze, and finally moved to PMW Dynamics where he works alongside a team of engineers designing and supporting all of the next generation of motor designs for automation, robotics and EAV solutions.

Steve also manages the repair and refurbishment of motors returned from the field with his detailed knowledge of printed armature motors from a number of manufactures who no longer support legacy motors including Kollmorgen, Mavilor, Parvalux and Lego. Steve has never not be able to breathe a fresh breath of life into any motors that arrives on this bench.
